Cell Structure

Concept Explanation

Cell Structure

A cell has both living and non-living parts. The living parts of the cell that have a definite shape, structure, and function are called organelles.

A generalised cell consists of three essential parts. These parts of cell are  plasma membrane, nucleus and cytoplasm.

Cell Organelles(Little organs) :-

Most parts of a cell have a definite shape, a definite structure and definite function. Such parts are called as organelles.

The organelles have the same status in a cell as the organs have in the entire body of an animal or a plant performing specific functions.

Different type of cell organelles are Endoplasmic reticulum, Mitochondria, Golgi apparatus, Ribosomes, Lysosomes, Centrosome, Plastids.

All these components of the cell are enclosed in a cell membrane which provides shape to the cells.

Cell wall is an additional covering over the cell membrane to give shape and rigidity to plant cells. Due to presence of these features, all activities inside the cell and interaction of the cell with the environment are possible.

The detailed structure of a cell has been studied under compound microscope' that use light and can magnify an object up to 2000 times.
